about
A few months ago, I started thinking about performing live for the first time. I started recording myself daily. I’d record live versions of the songs in as many different ways as possible. I was exploring; learning my voice; working out arrangement ideas and figuring how I want to perform my music live. This alternate version of Can You See Me is product of that experiment. It started as a live version, which in a sense I ended up ‘live producing’. It starts with one take of just guitar and voice and I decided to impromptu add a layer of vocal overdubs and piano. All the overdubs are one take just like the main. The result is somewhere between of a stream of conscious production and live version. I couldn’t bear to hear my voice in its raw, vulnerable form but I’ve come to love the bizarre little rendition of the song that has come to be. A friend of mine said it sounded like the deep YouTube version of CYSM haha. I hope you enjoy it. It’s far from perfect but that’s kinda the point.
lyrics
Can you see me now,
Am I just the ghost of who you had around,
When you hear the sound,
Of words that leave my mouth,
Do they still bring you down?
I see the look on your face,
It says so much you don’t have to,
The feeling I face is mine to hold,
You don’t have to
But I still really really care,
Yes I do,
Don’t look away,
Don’t let it fade,
Cause when the sun goes down
It comes back around,
So don’t look away
You don’t need me now,
Everything we’ve ever said comes back around,
Can you feel it now?
Head in the clouds and feet up on the ground,
I see the look on your face,
It says so much you don’t have to,
The feeling I face is mine to hold,
You don’t have to
But i still really really care,
Yes I do,
But I still really really care,
Yes I do,
Don’t look away,
Don’t let it fade,
Cause when the sun goes down,
it goes back around,
So, don’t look away
